For nearly 60 years, this spot on Route 1 has been where Camden locals, travelers along Route 1, campers from the State Park, and families making summer memories stopped for a great meal. This landmark served generations — and now it’s back as Happy’s Take Out.
Our mission is to restore and reimagine this beloved tradition — honoring that legacy while creating a welcoming destination built on fresh, delicious food, warm hospitality, and strong community connection. Beyond food, Happy’s is a vibrant outdoor gathering place where families, friends, and neighbors come together for music, entertainment, wellness, and celebration under the Maine summer sky.
We’re also proud partners of the Friends of Camden Hills State Park — a newly formed LLC dedicated to supporting the park by accepting donations without added administrative fees. Every order gives you the chance to round up and give back to the park we all love.
Meet Melissa & Michael
Melissa Kachan
A fourth-generation Maine native and mother of three, Melissa has worked in agriculture and food service since she was 16. She brings hands-on experience in operations, customer service, food preparation, staffing, and day-to-day business management. She recently completed her Bookkeeping Certificate through adult education, along with nationally accredited ServSafe Manager and Alcohol certifications. Melissa has a genuine passion for quality food, hospitality, and creating jobs and welcoming spaces where people and families can gather.
Michael Travis
A California native now happily putting down roots in Midcoast Maine, Michael has been a professional musician for more than 30 years — touring internationally with The String Cheese Incident and numerous successful side projects. After decades of global touring, he’s excited to help create a seasonal destination close to home in Camden. Michael brings an extensive network of musicians, deep production experience, and technical expertise that will make Happy’s a unique entertainment venue for the whole community.
